The mark consists of The mark consists of a circle with a shield in it. The words COURAGE HONOR INTEGRITY appear at the top edge of the main circle, the phrase is flanked by two stars on each side. There is a star separating the words COURAGE and HONOR, and another star separating the words HONOR and INTEGRITY. Below this is a shield design. The word OFFICER appears below an eagle at the top of the shield design above the words WAKE FOREST which appears above another circle in the center of the shield. In that smaller circle the words STATE OF appear conforming to the top of that circle framing another circle containing two symbolic human figures, the words NORTH CAROLINA appear at the bottom of the circle below the figures in a curved fashion conforming to the bottom of the circle, framing the bottom of the circle in which the figures appear. Below that central circle motif on the shield the words POLICE appear before the letters NC. Below the shield, conforming to the bottom of the outer circle, the words SINCE 1909 appear, flanked by single stars.
