Goods and Services
Market intelligence services; Providing business intelligence services Unfortunately fact sheets, brochures, and advertisements are not currently available nor do I intend to produce them in the short term. The company is in its infancy. Currently no similar services are offered within the information security community; however, the nearest analog would be "Threat Intelligence Feeds" and "Threat Intelligence Services". A number of organizations provide similar albeit slightly different products via these Threat Intelligence Services. See Specimen A: The Modus Operandi of the aforementioned companies is typically to produce a public report that details only a portion of the full activity and subsequently offer more information via their subscription threat intelligence services. This type of teaser is more or less standard in how these intelligence services are marketed to the public. See the following for examples of this activity are in Specimen B. All of these services require NDA's to be in place with customers and prevent the redistribution or rebranding of any supplied material. The goal of my organization is to provide publishable and synthesized threat intelligence reports, blogs, and white papers directly to information Security companies for the purpose of direct consumer and industry marketing. I understand this material may be used for any number of additional purposes, but I leave that up to the customers. A lot of power and marketing potential exists in the ability to name and effectively brand new malware, threat actor groups, and even specific operations and campaigns. The ultimate goal of which is to provide smaller and newer companies press opportunities, the ability to market products and services, and the appearance of advanced technical knowledge and capability. So at the end of the day the resultant material/intelligence that is being sold is in fact quite similar to other existing offerings; however, the way in which it will ultimately be consumed and used differs considerably. 1. Do the services relate to marketing or directed to the marketing industry Threat intelligence and threat intelligence reports have become the defacto standard of marketing material within the larger Information Security community. Although these reports are not "officially" recognized as such, the major players in the space such as Kaspersky, ESET, FireEye, Crowdstrike, Palo Alto Networks, and Cisco all leverage these reports to generate press opportunities and garner attention (market) within the industry. The services APT Marketing intends to provide relate directly to producing malware and actor-related threat intelligence reports which customers can then leverage as their own marketing material. See the attached for examples of my past work. The services are not directly related to the marketing industry; however, the materials produced will in all probability be used/leveraged to market a variety of different products and services within the Information Security industry. 2. Does the wording "MARKETING" have any meaning when used in connection with the identified services If so, what does it mean MARKETING relates directly to how I intend the final work product in this case Threat Intelligence Reports, Blogs, or White Papers to be used by customers. Within the context of the name itself it is a reference/double entendre to how threat intelligence reports are being used within the information security industry. 3. Does the wording "APT MARKETING" or "ADVANCED PERSISTENT THREAT MARKETING" have any meaning in applicant's trade or industry If so, what does it mean No. APT (Advanced Persistent Threat) was first adopted as an umbrella term to describe Malicious Threat Actor Groups (Primarily Chinese at the time) by Mandiant around early to mid 2009. Mandiant was primarily composed of former US Air Force Personnel and they routinely used military jargon and abbreviations to describe hacker groups whose abilities and determination were above and beyond what was typically observed. The government had its own names for these groups which were CLASSIFIED and as such could not be discussed in the open or with clients. Mandiant's original classifcation system APT1, APT2, APT3, etc allowed the groups to be discussed publicly (especially by law enforcement) without breaking confidentiality. "APT"/"Advanced Persistent Threat" has grown to become a household term in the information security industry and encompass not just nation state hackers but any sufficiently technologically advanced attack. "APT Marketing" as a term to my knowledge has not been coined or regularly used as either an individual term or as a description for threat research/threat intelligence. 4. Does the wording "APT MARKETING" or "ADVANCED PERSISTENT THREAT MARKETING" have any meaning when used in connection with the identified goods If so, what does it mean I intend to the use the term to not just refer to my company but also the original threat intelligence and original threat reports that I produce. Refer to the hyperlinks above for examples of this work product. I think this question has been sufficiently answered within the responses to the others. For clarity "Threat Intelligence" and "Threat Research" are commonly used within the industry to draw attention to products, services, or organizations themselves. Producing and releasing high caliber research often lends immediate credibility and technical expertise to a company. Smaller startups often can not afford to hire people capable of producing this type of research. I intend to create a sort of technical content farm to enable these smaller organizations to achieve the same effects from a marketing perspective without having to spend the money to retain top technical research talent
