There is a decorative border below the "Z" and the "K" in "ZASCIANEK", and a decorative border on the upper left corner, and the upper right corner above the wording. The picture shows a nineteenth century living room, with a gathering of family and friends consisting of eight people dressed in nineteenth century formal outfits and a cat sitting in front of a fireplace with a burning fire. There is a clock on top of the fireplace. The eight people in front of the fireplace are facing and listening to a single person who is reading aloud while sitting by a table with a lit kerosene lamp. Above the kerosene lamp are two pictures on the wall; one large and the other small. There is another picture on the wall in the right hand corner of the drawing behind the little girl. Additionally, there is a table in the left hand corner. There is a ball of yarn at the feet of the people in the picture, in front of the fireplace.
