The certification mark, as intended to be used by persons authorized by the certifier, is intended to certify that the service provider was accepted into the University of Health and Spiritual Sciences (UHSS), and undertook and completed the following requirements of UHSS, namely, - accepted as truth that all illness has spiritual implications and that the concepts of "spirit" are an integral part of diagnosis and treatment; - accepted as truth that no illness can be addressed effectively unless the spiritual components are taken into account; - accepted as truth that spiritual medicine is the oldest medicine in the world, and is the original medicine based on wisdom from the source; - accepted as truth a spiritual health model, that illness is a product of multiple etiologies and a consequence of the maladaptation of an organism to multiple stressors which may be physical, environmental, emotional, spiritual and spiritual/soul related, and more often than not, result from conflict, arising from thought and conduct contrary to the laws of nature and spiritual laws; - accepted as truth that symptoms are useful tools to facilitate a patients examination of his or her life, re- assessment of values, habits, personality, relationships, and work, enhanced self- awareness and modification of thoughts and/or behaviors, thereby eliminating or alleviating his or her illness; - accepted as truth that these truths constitute the essential tenets of the laws of spiritual science; and - agrees to be governed by the laws of spiritual science throughout any engagement in the investigation, research, validation, dissemination and application of the principles of spiritual medicine; And further certifies that the provider undertook and completed the development of foundational knowledge and proficiency in the principles and practice of spiritual medicine by - successfully completing the Certified Wellness Counselor Program (CWC), or being exempted from the program due to having been able to demonstrated competency from prior study and/or experiences to the satisfaction of the institutional review board of the UHSS; - successfully completing courses of study in the three colleges of the UHSS, namely, the College of the Mind, (further designated as the College of New Zen), the College of the Spirit (further designated as the College of Spirituality and Metaphysics), and the College of the Body (further designated as the College of Integrative Medicine); - successfully completing, presenting and defending a graduate thesis, all of which have rendered the graduate qualified to conduct spiritual-scientific care/counseling research under the institutional review board of the UHSS. The provider shall also have been awarded the Doctor of Divinity degree, and shall have become eligible for ordainment as an interfaith minister by UHSS. Eligibility for ordainment does not constitute the requirement of ordainment in order to receive the NSMD certification.
