The mark consists of the color black appearing as an annular band about the entire circumference of the upper portion of the golf club shaft below the golf club grip and an annular band of purple adjoining the annular band of black and covering the remainder of the golf club shaft all the way to the shaft tip at the clubhead end of the shaft. Indicia conveying information such as shaft stiffness, manufacturer's name and address, shaft model and the like may be printed on a minor portion of the mark. Such indicia form no part of the mark. The annular black band portion of the mark commences at the lower boundary of the golf club grip and, on a 46-inch driver shaft, preferably extends 8 inches down the shaft. The remaining 28 inches of the shaft are the color purple in the form of an annular band around the entire circumference of the shaft. Hence, when the mark is used as the color scheme for a modern 46-inch graphite golf shaft, the annular black portion of the mark covers about 28 percent of the exposed portion of the shaft while the remaining 72 percent of the shaft is covered by the annular purple color. The grip and the portion of the shaft covered by the grip form no part of the mark. For shorter golf shafts used with shorter golf clubs, such as "irons", the relative axial lengths and proportions of the annular black and purple portions of the mark correspond to that recited above for the 46 inch length shaft.
